Narrative:
Flying darbs 1 arrival to tpa. Advised ATC of requirement to deviate for WX avoidance, told of conflicting aircraft but no problem for deviation off arrival prior to WX. Approximately 20 mi north of line ATC was readvised of our need to deviate and we were issued clearance to deviate west of course as necessary direct pie when able. Subsequent clearance was for a turn south to +/- 160 degree heading. This turn would put us in WX and was refused. We were advised of warning area. We offered to turn 180 degrees eastbound (reversing course) to proceed around east side of WX. We were advised to squawk 7700, we turned clockwise (away from WX) to an easterly heading then we were advised to turn back to west. We then proceeded +/-75 mi west of course around WX. If warning areas were hot ATC should have not given us a clearance to deviate west as necessary. Areas are 'intermittent' on chart by 'jax ATC' to whom we were talking.

Narrative: FLYING DARBS 1 ARR TO TPA. ADVISED ATC OF REQUIREMENT TO DEVIATE FOR WX AVOIDANCE, TOLD OF CONFLICTING ACFT BUT NO PROB FOR DEV OFF ARR PRIOR TO WX. APPROX 20 MI N OF LINE ATC WAS READVISED OF OUR NEED TO DEVIATE AND WE WERE ISSUED CLRNC TO DEVIATE W OF COURSE AS NECESSARY DIRECT PIE WHEN ABLE. SUBSEQUENT CLRNC WAS FOR A TURN S TO +/- 160 DEG HDG. THIS TURN WOULD PUT US IN WX AND WAS REFUSED. WE WERE ADVISED OF WARNING AREA. WE OFFERED TO TURN 180 DEGS EBOUND (REVERSING COURSE) TO PROCEED AROUND E SIDE OF WX. WE WERE ADVISED TO SQUAWK 7700, WE TURNED CLOCKWISE (AWAY FROM WX) TO AN EASTERLY HDG THEN WE WERE ADVISED TO TURN BACK TO W. WE THEN PROCEEDED +/-75 MI W OF COURSE AROUND WX. IF WARNING AREAS WERE HOT ATC SHOULD HAVE NOT GIVEN US A CLRNC TO DEVIATE W AS NECESSARY. AREAS ARE 'INTERMITTENT' ON CHART BY 'JAX ATC' TO WHOM WE WERE TALKING.
