Narrative:

I was the captain on flight from sdf to mem. Takeoff fuel was approximately 30000 pounds with 900 pounds in the center tank. En route, we burned the fuel out of the center tank and turned the center tank fuel pumps off. On descent into memphis, a fuel confign light came on indicating more than 1200 pounds of fuel in the center tank with the fuel pumps off. The fuel pumps (center) were turned on and we landed at memphis with 400 pounds of fuel remaining in the center tank. I reported this to the memphis maintenance personnel upon arrival at the gateway. He checked with maintenance control in sdf. I was advised that if I wrote up the problem on that leg, the aircraft would be grounded in memphis. If I took the aircraft on to shreveport, la, maintenance and fuel cell personnel would meet the aircraft and could fix it. There was no safety problem because fuel could be pumped out of the center tank back into the mains. The write-up was entered in the logbook for leg mem-shv. There was no recurrence of fuel leaking from the main tanks to the center tank on the leg mem-shv.

Title: A PIC FOR A MAJOR FREIGHT ACR ALLOWS A MAINT SUPVR TO TALK HIM INTO DEFERRING MAINT ON HIS ACFT UNTIL THE NEXT STOP AND HAS HIM ENTER ACFT EQUIP MALFUNCTION IN WRONG OR NEXT LEG OF FLT IN LOGBOOK WRITE-UP.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT ON FLT FROM SDF TO MEM. TKOF FUEL WAS APPROX 30000 LBS WITH 900 LBS IN THE CTR TANK. ENRTE, WE BURNED THE FUEL OUT OF THE CTR TANK AND TURNED THE CTR TANK FUEL PUMPS OFF. ON DSCNT INTO MEMPHIS, A FUEL CONFIGN LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING MORE THAN 1200 LBS OF FUEL IN THE CTR TANK WITH THE FUEL PUMPS OFF. THE FUEL PUMPS (CTR) WERE TURNED ON AND WE LANDED AT MEMPHIS WITH 400 LBS OF FUEL REMAINING IN THE CTR TANK. I RPTED THIS TO THE MEMPHIS MAINT PERSONNEL UPON ARR AT THE GATEWAY. HE CHKED WITH MAINT CTL IN SDF. I WAS ADVISED THAT IF I WROTE UP THE PROB ON THAT LEG, THE ACFT WOULD BE GNDED IN MEMPHIS. IF I TOOK THE ACFT ON TO SHREVEPORT, LA, MAINT AND FUEL CELL PERSONNEL WOULD MEET THE ACFT AND COULD FIX IT. THERE WAS NO SAFETY PROB BECAUSE FUEL COULD BE PUMPED OUT OF THE CTR TANK BACK INTO THE MAINS. THE WRITE-UP WAS ENTERED IN THE LOGBOOK FOR LEG MEM-SHV. THERE WAS NO RECURRENCE OF FUEL LEAKING FROM THE MAIN TANKS TO THE CTR TANK ON THE LEG MEM-SHV.
