Narrative:
While on a night flight to atlanta, GA, I was in the right seat to give aircraft currency to an individual. We had previously been cleared to mcn sinca 3 arrival to atlanta. (The aircraft is equipped with old litton 51 carousel navigation units.) we switched over to atlanta and they (ATC) cleared me present position direct dublin VOR sinca 3 arrival. I tuned the dublin VOR and told the other pilot to proceed direct dublin while I programmed the INS for the new clearance. While I was reprogramming the INS, atlanta called and asked where we were going. I glanced at the VOR needles and it appeared we were passing dublin so I asked for direct sinca intersection. The PF had failed to switch our navigation mode from INS to navigation, therefore we were still on a heading (not direct to dublin). ATC then cleared us to sinca intersection, sinca 3 arrival. Shortly thereafter, we were given 2 headings to fly and increase airspeed. We complied. Further flight into atl was uneventful. On the ground, we reviewed what had happened. It was my failure to ensure the PF switch navigation modes on the autoplt, coupled with his lack of aircraft currency, night flight, high density airport and many navigation changes requested by atl in succession that contributed to this event. There was no conflict and the flight continued fine.

Title: AN MDT CORP JET FLC EXPERIENCES A FLC DEV OF A HDG TRACK DEV IN A NIGHT OP. ALERT ARTCC RADAR CTLR GIVES THEM A WAKEUP CALL.
Narrative: WHILE ON A NIGHT FLT TO ATLANTA, GA, I WAS IN THE R SEAT TO GIVE ACFT CURRENCY TO AN INDIVIDUAL. WE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN CLRED TO MCN SINCA 3 ARR TO ATLANTA. (THE ACFT IS EQUIPPED WITH OLD LITTON 51 CAROUSEL NAV UNITS.) WE SWITCHED OVER TO ATLANTA AND THEY (ATC) CLRED ME PRESENT POS DIRECT DUBLIN VOR SINCA 3 ARR. I TUNED THE DUBLIN VOR AND TOLD THE OTHER PLT TO PROCEED DIRECT DUBLIN WHILE I PROGRAMMED THE INS FOR THE NEW CLRNC. WHILE I WAS REPROGRAMMING THE INS, ATLANTA CALLED AND ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING. I GLANCED AT THE VOR NEEDLES AND IT APPEARED WE WERE PASSING DUBLIN SO I ASKED FOR DIRECT SINCA INTXN. THE PF HAD FAILED TO SWITCH OUR NAV MODE FROM INS TO NAV, THEREFORE WE WERE STILL ON A HDG (NOT DIRECT TO DUBLIN). ATC THEN CLRED US TO SINCA INTXN, SINCA 3 ARR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, WE WERE GIVEN 2 HDGS TO FLY AND INCREASE AIRSPD. WE COMPLIED. FURTHER FLT INTO ATL WAS UNEVENTFUL. ON THE GND, WE REVIEWED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. IT WAS MY FAILURE TO ENSURE THE PF SWITCH NAV MODES ON THE AUTOPLT, COUPLED WITH HIS LACK OF ACFT CURRENCY, NIGHT FLT, HIGH DENSITY ARPT AND MANY NAV CHANGES REQUESTED BY ATL IN SUCCESSION THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS EVENT. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT AND THE FLT CONTINUED FINE.
