Narrative:
On takeoff from runway 4L at ewr, we most likely tripped the noise abatement monitor. This was due to a very heavy aircraft and a turn that was initiated to 060 degrees but discontinued due to a 'speed low' on the FMA. Upon returning to a wings level and reaching 800 ft, we made the mistake of retracting the flaps and selecting climb power. This now delayed the turn further until the aircraft reached 0 ret for a greater than 15 degree bank turn. This occurred at approximately 1500 ft on our way to a 2500 ft level off. Speed 250 KTS was selected for the level off and it caused alpha speed to announce in FMA which delayed the turn further. By this time we had reached the 4 DME point and turned to a heading of 290 degrees. We received no comments from ATC.

Title: AN ACR MD80 CREW BELIEVES THAT IT MAY HAVE 'TRIPPED THE NOSE ABATEMENT MONITOR' AT EWR. ERROR ADMITTED. FLC TECHNIQUE FOLLOWING EWR NOISE ABATEMENT FLT PATH AND ACR SUGGESTED DEP TECHNIQUES.
Narrative: ON TKOF FROM RWY 4L AT EWR, WE MOST LIKELY TRIPPED THE NOISE ABATEMENT MONITOR. THIS WAS DUE TO A VERY HVY ACFT AND A TURN THAT WAS INITIATED TO 060 DEGS BUT DISCONTINUED DUE TO A 'SPD LOW' ON THE FMA. UPON RETURNING TO A WINGS LEVEL AND REACHING 800 FT, WE MADE THE MISTAKE OF RETRACTING THE FLAPS AND SELECTING CLB PWR. THIS NOW DELAYED THE TURN FURTHER UNTIL THE ACFT REACHED 0 RET FOR A GREATER THAN 15 DEG BANK TURN. THIS OCCURRED AT APPROX 1500 FT ON OUR WAY TO A 2500 FT LEVEL OFF. SPD 250 KTS WAS SELECTED FOR THE LEVEL OFF AND IT CAUSED ALPHA SPD TO ANNOUNCE IN FMA WHICH DELAYED THE TURN FURTHER. BY THIS TIME WE HAD REACHED THE 4 DME POINT AND TURNED TO A HDG OF 290 DEGS. WE RECEIVED NO COMMENTS FROM ATC.
