Narrative:

After leveling off at 9000 ft assigned and heading 150 degrees for traffic for approximately 2 mins, we were asked by the female controller if we had heard any xmissions in the last 5 mins. We responded 'yes' and reiterated our last clearance being 9000 ft and 150 degrees for traffic. She responded by saying we were 'cleared to, or I wanted you direct gaviota.' again, we reiterated our last clearance. My first officer and myself were very sure of this clearance.
