Narrative:
Time: XA33Z, ATC frequency 120.15. ATC facility: ewr departure. Location: ewr airport. Immediately after takeoff flight attendant reported smoke in the cabin. Moderate smoke was verified by the flight crew. Smoke had an oil odor . An emergency was declared and request made to return to ewr. Captain decision made to execute an overweight landing so as to reduce the exposure to additional problems which might result in a compromise or degradation of safety. Overweight landing executed at ewr at XA42Z, 9 mins after takeoff. Conditions during landing were 136400 gross weight, 27700 pounds fuel, 109 passenger, 6 crew members, soft landing, 100 FPM rate of descent on touchdown.

Title: ACFT EQUIP PROB. SMOKE FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE AFTER TKOF. FLC COMPLETED AIR CONDITION SMOKE PROCS. HAD TO USE RAM AIR WHICH DEPRESSURIZED ACFT AND SMOKE DISSIPATED. EMER DECLARED AND AFTER LNDG GND FIRE TRUCK FOLLOWED ACFT TO GATE. NO FURTHER PROB.
Narrative: TIME: XA33Z, ATC FREQ 120.15. ATC FACILITY: EWR DEP. LOCATION: EWR ARPT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF FLT ATTENDANT RPTED SMOKE IN THE CABIN. MODERATE SMOKE WAS VERIFIED BY THE FLC. SMOKE HAD AN OIL ODOR . AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND REQUEST MADE TO RETURN TO EWR.
