Narrative:

Inadvertent entry into class B without clearance. Initial radio contact established with departure control outside of class B airspace. I understood that we were cleared to enter class B, and I climbed and turned to enter. A second communication told us to remain outside of class B, so we started back down below the class B. However, class B was entered without apparent clearance. No conflicts arose and clearance was again confirmed. Mission proceeded with no further problems. I should have been more positive about original clearance to enter the class B. There was obvious misunderstanding between the controller and ourselves as to intention and clrncs.
