Narrative:
Approximately 40 mins after takeoff from jfk (en route to mco), filter bypass light illuminated on engine #2. Accomplished engine failure checklist and descended to FL200. After discussion with company dispatcher, elected to proceed to mco for following reasons: all nearby familiar airports were covered with thunderstorms or about to be, only available airports along route were chs (unfamiliar) or jax (runway too short).
