Narrative:

On approach to las runway 25L, at 12 NM and 7700 ft (above GS), captain elected to request vectors for another approach. Vectors were given to turn left heading 090 degrees and maintain 7000 ft for a downwind. At the las 16 DME at 7000 ft, TCASII issued an immediate climb RA. An immediate climb was initiated and at 7800 ft the RA stopped and 'clear of conflict' announced. Leveloff altitude was then 8000 ft (still heading 090 degrees). We saw the intruding aircraft pass directly below us with a TCASII readout of 7100 ft. An approach and landing was then accomplished normally. Supplemental information from acn 339879: we requested a 270 degree turn or vectors for another approach, due to our position and altitude. Approach control's comment was, 'are you kidding?' then gave us our altitude and distance to the runway.

Title: A WDB ACR ACFT CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA TO AVOID AN SMA.

Narrative: ON APCH TO LAS RWY 25L, AT 12 NM AND 7700 FT (ABOVE GS), CAPT ELECTED TO REQUEST VECTORS FOR ANOTHER APCH. VECTORS WERE GIVEN TO TURN L HDG 090 DEGS AND MAINTAIN 7000 FT FOR A DOWNWIND. AT THE LAS 16 DME AT 7000 FT, TCASII ISSUED AN IMMEDIATE CLB RA. AN IMMEDIATE CLB WAS INITIATED AND AT 7800 FT THE RA STOPPED AND 'CLR OF CONFLICT' ANNOUNCED. LEVELOFF ALT WAS THEN 8000 FT (STILL HDG 090 DEGS). WE SAW THE INTRUDING ACFT PASS DIRECTLY BELOW US WITH A TCASII READOUT OF 7100 FT. AN APCH AND LNDG WAS THEN ACCOMPLISHED NORMALLY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 339879: WE REQUESTED A 270 DEG TURN OR VECTORS FOR ANOTHER APCH, DUE TO OUR POS AND ALT. APCH CTL'S COMMENT WAS, 'ARE YOU KIDDING?' THEN GAVE US OUR ALT AND DISTANCE TO THE RWY.
