Narrative:
During power back from gate X at msy, I was somewhat slow to come out of reverse due to concern about clearing the tail of the aircraft parked at gate Y. The aircraft's rearward momentum was sufficient for the main landing gear to roll off the edge of the concrete into the grass.

Title: AN ACR MD80 POWERED BACK ONTO THE GRASS. ERROR ADMITTED, THE CAPT WAS SLOW COMING OUT OF REVERSE.
Narrative: DURING PWR BACK FROM GATE X AT MSY, I WAS SOMEWHAT SLOW TO COME OUT OF REVERSE DUE TO CONCERN ABOUT CLRING THE TAIL OF THE ACFT PARKED AT GATE Y. THE ACFT'S REARWARD MOMENTUM WAS SUFFICIENT FOR THE MAIN LNDG GEAR TO ROLL OFF THE EDGE OF THE CONCRETE INTO THE GRASS.
