Narrative:
Cleared to position and hold runway 36 dca. Air carrier Y, a B737, on a 4 mi final. Tower asked air carrier Y if he would 'south' turn to the right for spacing and he replied in the negative. Tower then asked if he would accept runway 33, he said yes and was cleared to land runway 33. We were then cleared for takeoff runway 36. Approximately 15 seconds into the takeoff tower told us to discontinue the takeoff which we did. Approximately speed was 40 to 50 KTS. We made an easy stop just as air carrier Y was rolling through the runway 36/33 intersection. Too close for me. A vip on board aircraft became very distraught. Tower controller pushing too hard to keep it moving during a peak afternoon sequence.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR LGT WAS GIVEN TKOF CLRNC WITH A B737 ON 4 NM FINAL. CTLR REQUESTED THE B737 TO DO S-TURNS AND THE B737 REFUSED, SO LCL CTLR CHANGED HIS RWY AND HAD THE ACFT LGT ABORT HIS TKOF. VIP ON BOARD THE LGT WAS UPSET.
Narrative: CLRED TO POS AND HOLD RWY 36 DCA. ACR Y, A B737, ON A 4 MI FINAL. TWR ASKED ACR Y IF HE WOULD 'S' TURN TO THE R FOR SPACING AND HE REPLIED IN THE NEGATIVE. TWR THEN ASKED IF HE WOULD ACCEPT RWY 33, HE SAID YES AND WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 33. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 36. APPROX 15 SECONDS INTO THE TKOF TWR TOLD US TO DISCONTINUE THE TKOF WHICH WE DID. APPROX SPD WAS 40 TO 50 KTS. WE MADE AN EASY STOP JUST AS ACR Y WAS ROLLING THROUGH THE RWY 36/33 INTXN. TOO CLOSE FOR ME. A VIP ON BOARD ACFT BECAME VERY DISTRAUGHT. TWR CTLR PUSHING TOO HARD TO KEEP IT MOVING DURING A PEAK AFTERNOON SEQUENCE.
