Narrative:
We received ATIS just prior to the new report. First officer did not recall hearing about the closed taxiway. We were then delayed for some time and did not get the new ATIS. During the wait we observed aircraft using the taxiway. On taxi out we used the closed portion and did not hear anything from ground control. In fact, ground control never notified us of the incident. While waiting for departure we got the new ATIS and recognized our mistake. When we returned to gso barriers had been erected to prevent just such an occurrence. To prevent this in the future: get newest ATIS prior to taxi, receive a full briefing from PNF, perhaps a reminder from ground if they observe a potential error, and erection of barrier earlier. Supplemental information from acn 341411: this event would not have taken place if I didn't rush to make up the lost time because of the WX delay. In the future I will take my time.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TAXIED ON CLOSED TXWY. TXWY WAS NOTED CLOSED ON ATIS, BUT AFTER FLC ALREADY HAD OBTAINED THE PREVIOUS ATIS IN WHICH IT WASN'T NOTED. THUS, FLC DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL OBTAINING THE CURRENT ATIS AFTER THEY HAD ALREADY USED THE TXWY. GND CTLR DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING.
Narrative: WE RECEIVED ATIS JUST PRIOR TO THE NEW RPT. FO DID NOT RECALL HEARING ABOUT THE CLOSED TXWY. WE WERE THEN DELAYED FOR SOME TIME AND DID NOT GET THE NEW ATIS. DURING THE WAIT WE OBSERVED ACFT USING THE TXWY. ON TAXI OUT WE USED THE CLOSED PORTION AND DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING FROM GND CTL. IN FACT, GND CTL NEVER NOTIFIED US OF THE INCIDENT. WHILE WAITING FOR DEP WE GOT THE NEW ATIS AND RECOGNIZED OUR MISTAKE. WHEN WE RETURNED TO GSO BARRIERS HAD BEEN ERECTED TO PREVENT JUST SUCH AN OCCURRENCE. TO PREVENT THIS IN THE FUTURE: GET NEWEST ATIS PRIOR TO TAXI, RECEIVE A FULL BRIEFING FROM PNF, PERHAPS A REMINDER FROM GND IF THEY OBSERVE A POTENTIAL ERROR, AND ERECTION OF BARRIER EARLIER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 341411: THIS EVENT WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE IF I DIDN'T RUSH TO MAKE UP THE LOST TIME BECAUSE OF THE WX DELAY. IN THE FUTURE I WILL TAKE MY TIME.
