Narrative:
While descending into dtw noticed funny odor. Checked with flight attendant -- no odor noticed in back of aircraft. Found smoke coming from captain brief case light assembly. We declared an emergency, had equipment standing by, followed emergency procedure for aircraft. Smoke quit after pulling breakers, landed on runway 3L. After landing, taxied to gate since smoke did not reoccur.
