Narrative:
1 hour into flight, flight attendants reported strong smell of burning rubber coming from mid cabin. I was sent back to investigate and I immediately detected the burning rubber smell. We diverted into clt and landed to investigate. We landed overweight at 157900 pounds, spent several hours investigating at clt without finding any abnormalities.

Title: AN ACR B727 CREW HAD TO DIVERT LAND WHEN SMOKE WAS DETECTED IN THE CABIN.
Narrative: 1 HR INTO FLT, FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED STRONG SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER COMING FROM MID CABIN. I WAS SENT BACK TO INVESTIGATE AND I IMMEDIATELY DETECTED THE BURNING RUBBER SMELL. WE DIVERTED INTO CLT AND LANDED TO INVESTIGATE. WE LANDED OVERWT AT 157900 LBS, SPENT SEVERAL HRS INVESTIGATING AT CLT WITHOUT FINDING ANY ABNORMALITIES.
