Narrative:

ZTL is under the gun with the olympics, however they are increasing the likelihood of an accident by decreasing aircraft spacing below safe limits for existing conditions. They are reducing spacing to the point where going into atl twice today we encountered wake turbulence 3 times, and they are becoming nearly militant on insisting that you visually follow other aircraft into the field even with haze, which made watching a preceding aircraft a full time job. (Both aircraft are descending on GS with the lead aircraft visually blending into the terrain.) also, they are clearing aircraft for takeoff when the preceding aircraft is not airborne.

Original NASA ASRS Text

Title: RPTR (ACR CAPT) WRITES ABOUT PROBS THAT HE EXPERIENCED AS A RESULT OF ATC PROCS DURING THE RECENT SUMMER OLYMPICS. THE 3 PRIMARY PROBS CITED INVOLVED THE APCH CTLR'S ISSUANCE OF VISUAL APCH CLRNCS DURING CONDITIONS OF LOW VISIBILITY IN HAZE, WAKE TURB ENCOUNTERS, AND THE ATCT CTLR'S PRACTICE OF ISSUING TKOF CLRNCS TO A DEPARTING ACFT BEFORE THE PRECEDING ACFT HAD DEPARTED THE RWY.

Narrative: ZTL IS UNDER THE GUN WITH THE OLYMPICS, HOWEVER THEY ARE INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF AN ACCIDENT BY DECREASING ACFT SPACING BELOW SAFE LIMITS FOR EXISTING CONDITIONS. THEY ARE REDUCING SPACING TO THE POINT WHERE GOING INTO ATL TWICE TODAY WE ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB 3 TIMES, AND THEY ARE BECOMING NEARLY MILITANT ON INSISTING THAT YOU VISUALLY FOLLOW OTHER ACFT INTO THE FIELD EVEN WITH HAZE, WHICH MADE WATCHING A PRECEDING ACFT A FULL TIME JOB. (BOTH ACFT ARE DSNDING ON GS WITH THE LEAD ACFT VISUALLY BLENDING INTO THE TERRAIN.) ALSO, THEY ARE CLRING ACFT FOR TKOF WHEN THE PRECEDING ACFT IS NOT AIRBORNE.
