Narrative:
Left engine (#1) cowling departed aircraft at 500-600 ft AGL. Did not find cowling missing until landing at hou. Unknown how problem occurred. Problem was discovered by dispatch calling us on company radio 30 mins from hou. Landed in hou. Discovered cowling missing outboard of #1 engine.
