Narrative:
Landing gear handle would not move to retract position. Circled airport and landed. Captain and I agreed that gear would not come up because the 12G microswitch in nose gear was not making contact. We decided to do a hard landing to cause microswitch to make contact. We decided that, if upon second takeoff, gear would not come up, we would fly to maintenance base. If gear would retract, then we would continue to destination. Gear retracted upon second takeoff, so we proceeded to destination. At destination, captain called company with our problem and company advised that the airplane was grounded. Company advised that we were in non compliance of general maintenance manual, and thus in violation of far. Currently under company disciplinary action and self-disclosure with local FSDO.

THEY DECIDED TO LAND HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE SWITCH FUNCTION CORRECTLY, WHICH THEY DID AND THEN CONTINUED ON TO DEST. AFTER LNDG RPTR'S COMPANY ADVISED THEM THEY WERE IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE MAINT MANUAL AND FACED DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
