Narrative:
B757 was preceding an E120 on downwind arrival into lax. The E120 was 5+ mi in trail of the B757 when the E120 pilot was almost rolled over due to wake turbulence. The E120 pilot advised that he would like to stay above the B757's altitude, which I approved, and I also approved a slower speed to increase the distance in trail. The distance required behind B757's is obviously not enough as this dangerous situation demonstrates.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WAKE ENCOUNTER. CTLR RPTR RECEIVED RPT FROM PLT OF AN E120 SAYING A WAKE ALMOST ROLLED OVER THE ACFT. FOLLOWING A B757 IN PRESCRIBED IN TRAIL SPACING, 5 MI, CTLR SLOWED THE RPTR ACFT AS WELL AS APPROVED A HIGHER ALT.
