Narrative:
Had 2 carts in the aisle serving. Captain notified #2 flight attendant it was going to get bumpy, discontinue beverage service and take a seat. Flight attendants #1 and #2 immediately terminated beverage service and moved the carts to the aft of the aircraft. Approximately 1 min later, the aircraft made a hard drop with a roll to the right. #2 flight attendant, positioned in galley with cart, hit the ceiling and met his cart 1/2 way down, hit the top of the cart and fell off to the right where he became pinned against a partition by the cart. His head was cabin-side and knees were in the stowage space for the cart. He was unable to move the cart. 2 passenger seated in row 16 helped get the cart off him. Flight attendant #1 was thrown against aft r-hand service door and fell to the floor but sustained no injuries. A registered nurse checked flight attendant #2 for injuries and stated, he should not be moved. Crew did not call, so #1 called and informed them. Flight attendant #2 remained on the floor for landing. Flight was met by emergency personnel. Crew flying aircraft termed it as moderate turbulence and aircraft was not inspected. Flight data recorder tapes were downloaded 2 days later, per request of air carrier director of safety. The flight proceeded to chicago. The passenger in row 17 held onto his arms while the #1 flight attendant held his feet. They parked at gate and were met by emergency personnel, 1 fire engine, 1 ambulance, several airport authority/authorized cars. #2 flight attendant was removed by stretcher and transported to hospital. He was treated for post rib contusions (4 ribs). The #2 flight attendant is also suffering from critical incident stress.
