Narrative:

In descent to approach at sdf we were given descent to 8000 ft from 14000 ft. I dialed in 3000 ft in the altitude alerter. At 7600 ft the controller asked our altitude and told us of the deviation. He then reclred us to 7000 ft. Reasons: fatigue. We had both been 'up' for 18 hours at this point and flew a trip previous with 3 hours flying. New aircraft. While we both have fresh 135 PIC checks, we have very little time in the LR55, and find our attention diverted to making sure things are set correctly (obviously I missed the altitude select!) and checklist items.
