Narrative:
We departed the phx airport on a night freight flight. Passing through 6000 ft we received a wheelwell fire warning light and bell. We performed the wheelwell fire checklist, declared an emergency for immediate return to the phx airport. Shortly after the landing gear was extended and the gear doors opened, the wheelwell fire warning light went out. I requested for fire truck assistance as part of our emergency. After landing we were notified that there did not appear to be any fire in the wheelwell area so we taxied off the runway onto the parallel taxiway where we were inspected more thoroughly. Our own company mechanics came out to the aircraft, inspected the wheelwells, and then gave us the ok to taxi into our ramp.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED THE PHX ARPT ON A NIGHT FREIGHT FLT. PASSING THROUGH 6000 FT WE RECEIVED A WHEELWELL FIRE WARNING LIGHT AND BELL. WE PERFORMED THE WHEELWELL FIRE CHKLIST, DECLARED AN EMER FOR IMMEDIATE RETURN TO THE PHX ARPT. SHORTLY AFTER THE LNDG GEAR WAS EXTENDED AND THE GEAR DOORS OPENED, THE WHEELWELL FIRE WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT. I REQUESTED FOR FIRE TRUCK ASSISTANCE AS PART OF OUR EMER. AFTER LNDG WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY FIRE IN THE WHEELWELL AREA SO WE TAXIED OFF THE RWY ONTO THE PARALLEL TXWY WHERE WE WERE INSPECTED MORE THOROUGHLY. OUR OWN COMPANY MECHS CAME OUT TO THE ACFT, INSPECTED THE WHEELWELLS, AND THEN GAVE US THE OK TO TAXI INTO OUR RAMP.
