Narrative:
Climbed to FL350 at maximum weight for altitude. After level off required engine anti-ice. Could not hold speed and then had a compressor stall on the right engine, requested a lower altitude as descent was started. Should have requested a lower altitude as soon as airspeed started to decay.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC CLBS TO OPTIMUM ALT THEN FINDS THAT THE ACFT PERFORMANCE IS INSUFFICIENT TO HOLD THAT ALT WHEN THEY PUT THE ANTI-ICE ON. THE FLC STARTED DOWN BEFORE THEY REQUESTED A DSCNT DUE TO BOTH PERFORMANCE AND ENG COMPRESSOR STALL PROBS.
