Narrative:

ZID kept our flight high for traffic. We were at FL240 at 50 DME for vhp. We were switched to approach control. Preoccupied with the rapid descent, approach cleared us for the runway 23R visual. We were using the ILS for backup. Approach failed and we were preoccupied with aircraft confign changes, to switch us to tower frequency for landing clearance. It was after landing that I realized we didn't call tower. I should have gotten vectors to lose altitude instead of trying to salvage a bad approach.

Title: FLC OF AN ACR HAS TO MAKE A HIGH STEEP DSCNT FOR A VISUAL APCH AND LANDS WITHOUT TWR CLRNC.

Narrative: ZID KEPT OUR FLT HIGH FOR TFC. WE WERE AT FL240 AT 50 DME FOR VHP. WE WERE SWITCHED TO APCH CTL. PREOCCUPIED WITH THE RAPID DSCNT, APCH CLRED US FOR THE RWY 23R VISUAL. WE WERE USING THE ILS FOR BACKUP. APCH FAILED AND WE WERE PREOCCUPIED WITH ACFT CONFIGN CHANGES, TO SWITCH US TO TWR FREQ FOR LNDG CLRNC. IT WAS AFTER LNDG THAT I REALIZED WE DIDN'T CALL TWR. I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN VECTORS TO LOSE ALT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SALVAGE A BAD APCH.
