Narrative:
Due to rerte out of ord for WX, crew erroneously turned outbound from bae on jet airway 36, instead of assigned airway, which was jet 34. Ord ATC asked crew which airway they were on, and crew corrected to return to assigned airway. This error occurred during a routing for WX in the ord area, and due to 2 airways with similar numerical designations (J-34, J-36) both heading west out of bae VOR. Crew workload and lack of ONS navigation was also a factor.
