Narrative:
We were taxiing out of the alleyway from gate at O'hare (ord) airport. Between XA56Z and XB11Z received taxi instructions to follow air carrier out taxiway A12 to taxiway M2 to taxiway M to runway 27L. Later, the taxi instructions were amended to go out taxiway A13 to taxiway M2 and taxiway M and follow the MD80. The MD80 (aircraft) was eastbound on taxiway B and made a right turn out taxiway M2. We proceeded out taxiway A13 and upon reaching taxiway B we noted that a B737 was on taxiway B approaching us at such a rate that stopping on taxiway B would have put us nose-to-nose to the B737, and possibly the B737 would not have been able to stop. I elected to make a left turn on taxiway B to avoid the B737. Ground control told us to continue on taxiway B and take taxiway M5 to taxiway M. There was not a conflict and ground control made no other reference to the situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TAXI CONFLICT. RPTR ACFT INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW AN MD80 ON TXWY B WHICH MADE A TURN OUT TXWY M2 TO TXWY M. WHEN RPTR WAS MOVING OUT, ANOTHER ACFT WAS TAXIING ON TXWY B, AND INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR IT TO PASS, RPTR TAXIED IN FRONT OF THE ACFT. GND CTLR ISSUED RPTR ANOTHER CLRNC.
Narrative: WE WERE TAXIING OUT OF THE ALLEYWAY FROM GATE AT O'HARE (ORD) ARPT. BTWN XA56Z AND XB11Z RECEIVED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW ACR OUT TXWY A12 TO TXWY M2 TO TXWY M TO RWY 27L. LATER, THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE AMENDED TO GO OUT TXWY A13 TO TXWY M2 AND TXWY M AND FOLLOW THE MD80. THE MD80 (ACFT) WAS EBOUND ON TXWY B AND MADE A R TURN OUT TXWY M2. WE PROCEEDED OUT TXWY A13 AND UPON REACHING TXWY B WE NOTED THAT A B737 WAS ON TXWY B APCHING US AT SUCH A RATE THAT STOPPING ON TXWY B WOULD HAVE PUT US NOSE-TO-NOSE TO THE B737, AND POSSIBLY THE B737 WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. I ELECTED TO MAKE A L TURN ON TXWY B TO AVOID THE B737. GND CTL TOLD US TO CONTINUE ON TXWY B AND TAKE TXWY M5 TO TXWY M. THERE WAS NOT A CONFLICT AND GND CTL MADE NO OTHER REF TO THE SIT.
