Narrative:

Present position approximately 55 west jvl, approximately XX45Z, I was cleared from FL280 to 9000 ft by 35 mi west of ord. At 12000 ft I started slowing to 250 KTS and was then cleared to 7000 ft. Next cleared to intercept runway 14R localizer ord. Passing through 8000 ft I was cleared for the approach. Captain then set the altitude alert to 14000 ft to prevent altitude alert from going off. I questioned why he said I was high. I then realized the approach chart showed 7000 ft until GS intercept. I pushed altitude hold and stopped (descent at 6400 ft approximately 26 DME), intercepted the GS and completed landing uneventful. Captain misinterpreted distance/altitude from airport.

Title: ALTDEV ON DSCNT FOR APCH INTERCEPT. PF, RPTR FO, WAS LED TO THINK HE WAS TOO HIGH FOR THE INTERCEPT BY THE CAPT. THE CAPT WAS WRONG.

Narrative: PRESENT POS APPROX 55 W JVL, APPROX XX45Z, I WAS CLRED FROM FL280 TO 9000 FT BY 35 MI W OF ORD. AT 12000 FT I STARTED SLOWING TO 250 KTS AND WAS THEN CLRED TO 7000 FT. NEXT CLRED TO INTERCEPT RWY 14R LOC ORD. PASSING THROUGH 8000 FT I WAS CLRED FOR THE APCH. CAPT THEN SET THE ALT ALERT TO 14000 FT TO PREVENT ALT ALERT FROM GOING OFF. I QUESTIONED WHY HE SAID I WAS HIGH. I THEN REALIZED THE APCH CHART SHOWED 7000 FT UNTIL GS INTERCEPT. I PUSHED ALT HOLD AND STOPPED (DSCNT AT 6400 FT APPROX 26 DME), INTERCEPTED THE GS AND COMPLETED LNDG UNEVENTFUL. CAPT MISINTERPRETED DISTANCE/ALT FROM ARPT.
