Narrative:
Through-flight aircraft arrived on gate and had several maintenance write-ups. Supervisor started working some while I worked other write-ups. 1 item was a broken passenger seat which required a new breakover bolt. We couldn't locate correct bolt in parts manuals, so we contacted maintenance control for correct or equivalent substitute. They gave us different part numbers since there are many different configns. We matched the broken bolt with a new bolt and installed new bolt. Later on, in talking to another mechanic, I realized old bolt might not have been correct bolt for effectivity of seats. I then immediately contacted my supervisor and explained new bolt might not be correct since old bolt used for identify was possibly incorrect. He then advised maintenance control to have new bolt verified for correct effectivity, and if found incorrect be replaced.

HE THEN ADVISED MAINT CTL TO HAVE NEW BOLT VERIFIED FOR CORRECT EFFECTIVITY, AND IF FOUND INCORRECT BE REPLACED.
