Narrative:
Location: 25 NM ssw clt. Descending to 8000 ft, TCASII gave a warning, aircraft below 200 ft and 1-2 mi ahead. Copilot firewalled the throttles. 2 aural warnings followed by #1 and #2 high egt. Copilot retarded throttles, less than 5 seconds. Unable to determine egt. Called approach control and asked if there was an aircraft below and responded there was at 7600 ft. Our altitude never went below 8200 ft. Again we came within 200 ft on the TCASII display. Approach into clt was normal. We called air carrier maintenance and explained the situation. They took the aircraft OTS.
