Narrative:

I departed bna IFR to lex with instructions of runway (2C) heading and climb to 4000 ft. After switch to departure control, I was given a turn to 040 degrees and climb to 5000 ft. I inadvertently climbed to 5400 ft before being notified by ATC of my error which I corrected immediately by descending to and maintaining 5000 ft until further climb clearance. There were numerous thunderstorms in the immediate area as well as along my route of flight. The frequency was also quite active and I obviously was distracted by the monitoring of my radar screen and the busy frequency as well as the light turbulence and climbed right through my assigned altitude. I, alone, made the mistake and I credit the controller in assisting me in correcting it.

Title: ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOT IN CLB. NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC.

Narrative: I DEPARTED BNA IFR TO LEX WITH INSTRUCTIONS OF RWY (2C) HDG AND CLB TO 4000 FT. AFTER SWITCH TO DEP CTL, I WAS GIVEN A TURN TO 040 DEGS AND CLB TO 5000 FT. I INADVERTENTLY CLBED TO 5400 FT BEFORE BEING NOTIFIED BY ATC OF MY ERROR WHICH I CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY BY DSNDING TO AND MAINTAINING 5000 FT UNTIL FURTHER CLB CLRNC. THERE WERE NUMEROUS TSTMS IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA AS WELL AS ALONG MY RTE OF FLT. THE FREQ WAS ALSO QUITE ACTIVE AND I OBVIOUSLY WAS DISTRACTED BY THE MONITORING OF MY RADAR SCREEN AND THE BUSY FREQ AS WELL AS THE LIGHT TURB AND CLBED RIGHT THROUGH MY ASSIGNED ALT. I, ALONE, MADE THE MISTAKE AND I CREDIT THE CTLR IN ASSISTING ME IN CORRECTING IT.
