Narrative:
During push back and engine start, flight attendant notified us that she could see daylight between door seal of L2 door (left aft galley door). All door lights were out and tested. I asked her to open and reclose the door. We observed the L2 door light to come on and then go out. Believing that everything was ok, we proceeded to depart. After takeoff, we observed that the aircraft was not pressurizing properly. Upon confirming with the flight attendants that there was a loud air noise in the area of the L2 door, we returned to orlando airport. Landing was normal. Maintenance inspection discovered a rigging/alignment problem with the L2 door that prevented it from sealing properly, regardless of the fact that the door warning lights were out. Door light system needs to be upgraded to prevent this type of occurrence.

Title: AN MD80 RETURNED TO THE FIELD DUE TO L2 GALLEY SVC DOOR NOT CLOSED AND LOCKED.
Narrative: DURING PUSH BACK AND ENG START, FLT ATTENDANT NOTIFIED US THAT SHE COULD SEE DAYLIGHT BTWN DOOR SEAL OF L2 DOOR (L AFT GALLEY DOOR). ALL DOOR LIGHTS WERE OUT AND TESTED. I ASKED HER TO OPEN AND RECLOSE THE DOOR. WE OBSERVED THE L2 DOOR LIGHT TO COME ON AND THEN GO OUT. BELIEVING THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK, WE PROCEEDED TO DEPART. AFTER TKOF, WE OBSERVED THAT THE ACFT WAS NOT PRESSURIZING PROPERLY. UPON CONFIRMING WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS THAT THERE WAS A LOUD AIR NOISE IN THE AREA OF THE L2 DOOR, WE RETURNED TO ORLANDO ARPT. LNDG WAS NORMAL. MAINT INSPECTION DISCOVERED A RIGGING/ALIGNMENT PROB WITH THE L2 DOOR THAT PREVENTED IT FROM SEALING PROPERLY, REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT THE DOOR WARNING LIGHTS WERE OUT. DOOR LIGHT SYS NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE.
