Narrative:
Deviation from holding airspace. Operating flight from okc to stl on sep/tue/96 with first officer flying. We were given a holding clearance at trake intersection as published except 20 NM legs with efc of XA30 local. WX was cavu. Holding was unexpected and aircraft did not have holding fuel for this 1/2 hour delay. Flight was at FL260 and was given successive step-down clrncs, each 1000 ft to final of FL210. I concerned myself with alternate plan, fuel analysis, contact with dispatch. First officer flew 10-15 NM past trake intersection before I noticed his error and told him to enter the hold. Aircraft was given new frequency with no mention of conflict.
