Narrative:
2 separate occurrences on sep/xx/96 at isp. An FK10 was instructed to taxi to runway 24 and hold short of runway 15R. Aircraft taxied via taxiway east which crossed runway 15R/33L at the approach end of runway 33L. The FK10 started past the hold line for runway 15R/33L. The ground controller told the aircraft to hold its position. After continuing its taxi to runway 24 the pilot thanked the ground controller for watching him, but stated he was confused by the airport signage at the intersection. The sign does not display runway 15R. The pilot must realize that runway 33L/15R are the same runway. The signage at isp is correct according to the aim but is not satisfactory. Another occurrence was essentially the same as described above except it involved a GA aircraft on taxiway east.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLTDEV OCCURRED WHEN THE FLC OF AN ACR FK10 CROSSED THE RWY HOLD LINE. RPTR ALLEGES THE PLT WAS CONFUSED BY THE SIGNAGE AT THE INTXN.
Narrative: 2 SEPARATE OCCURRENCES ON SEP/XX/96 AT ISP. AN FK10 WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO RWY 24 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15R. ACFT TAXIED VIA TXWY E WHICH CROSSED RWY 15R/33L AT THE APCH END OF RWY 33L. THE FK10 STARTED PAST THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 15R/33L. THE GND CTLR TOLD THE ACFT TO HOLD ITS POS. AFTER CONTINUING ITS TAXI TO RWY 24 THE PLT THANKED THE GND CTLR FOR WATCHING HIM, BUT STATED HE WAS CONFUSED BY THE ARPT SIGNAGE AT THE INTXN. THE SIGN DOES NOT DISPLAY RWY 15R. THE PLT MUST REALIZE THAT RWY 33L/15R ARE THE SAME RWY. THE SIGNAGE AT ISP IS CORRECT ACCORDING TO THE AIM BUT IS NOT SATISFACTORY. ANOTHER OCCURRENCE WAS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AS DESCRIBED ABOVE EXCEPT IT INVOLVED A GA ACFT ON TXWY E.
