Narrative:
A ferry flight was conducted from rfd to mke in a beech 1900D with the landing gear pinned in the down position. As the first officer, I performed a preflight inspection of the aircraft, and verified the gear was pinned, while the captain verified an inspection was performed by maintenance and all ferry permits were completed. The flight from rfd to mke was uneventful. 6 days after the flight, it was discovered that a second required signature on the ferry permit was not signed. Apparently, the ferry operation was a type 2 operation and requires 2 signatures on the permit. The captain was unaware of this requirement as was I. A company procedure for ferrying aircraft is not defined in our fom, recurrent ground schools, or upgrade classes. A step-by-step procedure is now being written by flight standards and training for future ferry operations.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BEECH 1900D. FERRY FLT WITH LNDG GEAR PINNED DOWN. ALL FERRY PAPERWORK COMPLETED, BUT LATER FOUND THE FORM REQUIRED A SIGNATURE OF WHICH THE FLC WAS UNAWARE. ACR MANUALS ARE BEING REVISED TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE.
Narrative: A FERRY FLT WAS CONDUCTED FROM RFD TO MKE IN A BEECH 1900D WITH THE LNDG GEAR PINNED IN THE DOWN POS. AS THE FO, I PERFORMED A PREFLT INSPECTION OF THE ACFT, AND VERIFIED THE GEAR WAS PINNED, WHILE THE CAPT VERIFIED AN INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED BY MAINT AND ALL FERRY PERMITS WERE COMPLETED. THE FLT FROM RFD TO MKE WAS UNEVENTFUL. 6 DAYS AFTER THE FLT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A SECOND REQUIRED SIGNATURE ON THE FERRY PERMIT WAS NOT SIGNED. APPARENTLY, THE FERRY OP WAS A TYPE 2 OP AND REQUIRES 2 SIGNATURES ON THE PERMIT. THE CAPT WAS UNAWARE OF THIS REQUIREMENT AS WAS I. A COMPANY PROC FOR FERRYING ACFT IS NOT DEFINED IN OUR FOM, RECURRENT GND SCHOOLS, OR UPGRADE CLASSES. A STEP-BY-STEP PROC IS NOW BEING WRITTEN BY FLT STANDARDS AND TRAINING FOR FUTURE FERRY OPS.
