Narrative:
I was the captain of flight operating from rdu to stl. We called ground control at rdu for ATC clearance during taxi out. The clearance was 'as filed' but given full route as 'pack 4' departure lib-roa-flm-vhp-vla-vla 2-STL. We read back the squawk only and departed as cleared. (Normally the route of flight is pack right liberty-azell-vxv-J46 bna J45, etc, qball 2 arrival which is a more westerly route. Dispatch filed us on a more northerly route for WX avoidance.) as we passed over liberty and turned toward roanoke ZTL questioned our route of flight and directed us to make an immediate left turn to 270 degrees. He asked us to give him the specific agency or person who gave us the clearance to roanoke. I told him that it was rdu ground control and that our flight plan was also over roa. He calmed down and said it probably wasn't our fault. We continued wbound and were subsequently vectored past flm direct vhp vla 2 arrival into stl. It seems that atlanta and/or ZDC was not informed of our filed route and expected our normal route of flight as described above. Rdu ground control did not issue an amended clearance so there was no reason to suspect anything was amiss until ZTL questioned our route of flight.

Title: MLG FLC HAS HEADING DEV WHEN DISPATCH ISSUES DIFFERENT CLRNC BUT DOES NOT INFORM FLC. GND CTLR ISSUES 'AS FILED' BUT READS THE FULL RTE.
Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT OF FLT OPERATING FROM RDU TO STL. WE CALLED GND CTL AT RDU FOR ATC CLRNC DURING TAXI OUT. THE CLRNC WAS 'AS FILED' BUT GIVEN FULL RTE AS 'PACK 4' DEP LIB-ROA-FLM-VHP-VLA-VLA 2-STL. WE READ BACK THE SQUAWK ONLY AND DEPARTED AS CLRED. (NORMALLY THE RTE OF FLT IS PACK R LIBERTY-AZELL-VXV-J46 BNA J45, ETC, QBALL 2 ARR WHICH IS A MORE WESTERLY RTE. DISPATCH FILED US ON A MORE NORTHERLY RTE FOR WX AVOIDANCE.) AS WE PASSED OVER LIBERTY AND TURNED TOWARD ROANOKE ZTL QUESTIONED OUR RTE OF FLT AND DIRECTED US TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE L TURN TO 270 DEGS. HE ASKED US TO GIVE HIM THE SPECIFIC AGENCY OR PERSON WHO GAVE US THE CLRNC TO ROANOKE. I TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS RDU GND CTL AND THAT OUR FLT PLAN WAS ALSO OVER ROA. HE CALMED DOWN AND SAID IT PROBABLY WASN'T OUR FAULT. WE CONTINUED WBOUND AND WERE SUBSEQUENTLY VECTORED PAST FLM DIRECT VHP VLA 2 ARR INTO STL. IT SEEMS THAT ATLANTA AND/OR ZDC WAS NOT INFORMED OF OUR FILED RTE AND EXPECTED OUR NORMAL RTE OF FLT AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. RDU GND CTL DID NOT ISSUE AN AMENDED CLRNC SO THERE WAS NO REASON TO SUSPECT ANYTHING WAS AMISS UNTIL ZTL QUESTIONED OUR RTE OF FLT.
