Narrative:

After the usual 5 min delay to cross runway 35L after landing runway 35C, we were told to taxi across runway 35C at ek, hold short taxiway K, and contact ground 121.65. We were nosed across taxiway left short of taxiway K and made numerous attempts to call ground on both 121.65 and 121.8 with no reply. Ground then called us and told us to pull up. There was an aircraft behind us and departure traffic waiting on runway 35L for him to clear. He then asked us why we had not pulled up further. We held short taxiway K as told. We were unaware of traffic behind us and as we could not reach ground, felt we complied with our instructions to hold short ensuring we were clear of runway 35L -- we were. I have heard others berated by dfw controllers for taxiing without complete instructions, so, as per FARS, I did not move further until contact with ATC ground. I called the gentleman working ground and we had a pleasant conversation. He stated he was diverted by other duties and could not get to us in a timely manner but that we needed to pull up further. I expressed our perspective that we complied to hold short taxiway K and we were already obstructing taxiway left. Also not aware of traffic or type behind. I do not believe anything occurred by either party here but it illustrates an ongoing problem at dfw. We make many unnecessary calls and frequency changes with ground on arrival. Often we wait at taxiway K from all directions to talk to hectic controllers knowing we always, always join taxiway K. Why not develop standard taxi-in procedures for free flow to join taxiway K, and ATC calls by exception? It will greatly reduce delays and frequency clutter.

Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC BLOCKED TFC FROM EXITING THE RWY BEHIND THEM WHILE THEY WERE HOLDING SHORT OF A PARALLEL TXWY. AS A RESULT, DEP TFC WAS ALSO DELAYED ON THE SAME RWY. A CREW MEMBER RPTS THAT THE FLC HAD BEEN UNABLE TO CONTACT THE GND CTLR (ON THE ASSIGNED FREQ) AND THEY HAD ATTEMPTED CONTACT ON ANOTHER FREQ.

Narrative: AFTER THE USUAL 5 MIN DELAY TO CROSS RWY 35L AFTER LNDG RWY 35C, WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 35C AT EK, HOLD SHORT TXWY K, AND CONTACT GND 121.65. WE WERE NOSED ACROSS TXWY L SHORT OF TXWY K AND MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CALL GND ON BOTH 121.65 AND 121.8 WITH NO REPLY. GND THEN CALLED US AND TOLD US TO PULL UP. THERE WAS AN ACFT BEHIND US AND DEP TFC WAITING ON RWY 35L FOR HIM TO CLR. HE THEN ASKED US WHY WE HAD NOT PULLED UP FURTHER. WE HELD SHORT TXWY K AS TOLD. WE WERE UNAWARE OF TFC BEHIND US AND AS WE COULD NOT REACH GND, FELT WE COMPLIED WITH OUR INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT ENSURING WE WERE CLR OF RWY 35L -- WE WERE. I HAVE HEARD OTHERS BERATED BY DFW CTLRS FOR TAXIING WITHOUT COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SO, AS PER FARS, I DID NOT MOVE FURTHER UNTIL CONTACT WITH ATC GND. I CALLED THE GENTLEMAN WORKING GND AND WE HAD A PLEASANT CONVERSATION. HE STATED HE WAS DIVERTED BY OTHER DUTIES AND COULD NOT GET TO US IN A TIMELY MANNER BUT THAT WE NEEDED TO PULL UP FURTHER. I EXPRESSED OUR PERSPECTIVE THAT WE COMPLIED TO HOLD SHORT TXWY K AND WE WERE ALREADY OBSTRUCTING TXWY L. ALSO NOT AWARE OF TFC OR TYPE BEHIND. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING OCCURRED BY EITHER PARTY HERE BUT IT ILLUSTRATES AN ONGOING PROB AT DFW. WE MAKE MANY UNNECESSARY CALLS AND FREQ CHANGES WITH GND ON ARR. OFTEN WE WAIT AT TXWY K FROM ALL DIRECTIONS TO TALK TO HECTIC CTLRS KNOWING WE ALWAYS, ALWAYS JOIN TXWY K. WHY NOT DEVELOP STANDARD TAXI-IN PROCS FOR FREE FLOW TO JOIN TXWY K, AND ATC CALLS BY EXCEPTION? IT WILL GREATLY REDUCE DELAYS AND FREQ CLUTTER.
