Narrative:

When set altimeter prior to taxi, noted it was about 200 ft higher than should be. On takeoff, airspeed and altitude were normal. Rotated at 105 KIAS. Airspeed reached 140 KIAS and then progressively dropped to zero on pilot side (copilot indicated normally). Also, altimeter froze at 600 ft AGL. Requested, through departure control, to return to field as soon as possible. Never more than 5 mi from airport (visibility = 20 mi) and airport always in sight. Returned and landed safely. On closer examination of static ports found masking tape over static ports, left following aircraft washing the day before. Removal of tape, instruments worked normally. Lesson learned: preflight done with flashlight at night. Will more closely examine all parts of airplane including actual touching of essential items.

Title: BE200 HURON DEPARTED AND ON CLBOUT ALTIMETER QUIT FUNCTIONING AT 600 FT AGL. AIRSPD INDICATOR WAS NORMAL ON TKOF THEN BLED OFF TO ZERO, COPLT INSTS OK. REQUEST RETURN TO ARPT. ON GND INSPECTION FOUND TAPE OVER STATIC PORTS.
