Narrative:
On final approach into kansas city, we had a possible near miss. We were on a straight-in visual approach to runway 27 talking with tower. At approximately 6-8 mi out we noticed an aircraft on 'TCASII' approximately 800 ft above us descending. I looked out and spotted the aircraft, a cessna, descending on a course perpendicular to our final approach course. We then received a 'TCASII' RA with a 'descend' command. The first officer was flying the aircraft and immediately began an increased descent rate to comply with the RA. I maintained visual contact with the cessna and informed tower of the situation. The first officer said he believed we came within 400 ft of the cessna. I was looking outside and did not see our exact altitude separation. I believe the cessna was on a visual approach into kansas city downtown airport.

Title: AN MD88 ACFT ON VISUAL APCH RECEIVES TCASII ALERT AND FOLLOWS RA. VISUAL CONTACT WITH INTRUDER XING IN FRONT OF ACR ACFT.
Narrative: ON FINAL APCH INTO KANSAS CITY, WE HAD A POSSIBLE NEAR MISS. WE WERE ON A STRAIGHT-IN VISUAL APCH TO RWY 27 TALKING WITH TWR. AT APPROX 6-8 MI OUT WE NOTICED AN ACFT ON 'TCASII' APPROX 800 FT ABOVE US DSNDING. I LOOKED OUT AND SPOTTED THE ACFT, A CESSNA, DSNDING ON A COURSE PERPENDICULAR TO OUR FINAL APCH COURSE. WE THEN RECEIVED A 'TCASII' RA WITH A 'DSND' COMMAND. THE FO WAS FLYING THE ACFT AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN AN INCREASED DSCNT RATE TO COMPLY WITH THE RA. I MAINTAINED VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE CESSNA AND INFORMED TWR OF THE SIT. THE FO SAID HE BELIEVED WE CAME WITHIN 400 FT OF THE CESSNA. I WAS LOOKING OUTSIDE AND DID NOT SEE OUR EXACT ALT SEPARATION. I BELIEVE THE CESSNA WAS ON A VISUAL APCH INTO KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN ARPT.
