Narrative:
During climb out while attempting to program garmin GPS we overshot level off altitude by 1000 ft (level off assigned altitude 10000 ft). Autoplt was programmed for automatic climb and level off but failed to capture the selected altitude 10000 ft. The deviation was detected by the crew an instant before the controller commented and corrective action initiated without incident.
