Narrative:
We were holding at 'the pad' for a runway 24L departure from lax. The pad is at the end of runway 24L facing down the runway. We were cleared into position and hold. As we turned the corner and crossed the hold short line, the first officer stated that the aircraft on short final looked like it was landing on our runway rather than runway 24R which is normal. I stopped short of the runway and our company landed on runway 24L. The tower had indeed cleared him to land and us into position on the same runway. When the controller realized the situation, he attempted several xmissions, using wrong call signs, etc. He was a little flustered. We just stated that we were holding short and he thanked us. Company landed uneventfully and we were subsequently cleared into position again with no further problems. We are used to seeing aircraft on final, normally for the other runway (parallel) and it takes a moment to realize that they are landing on your runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR B737 WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 24L AT LAX. AS THE ACFT CROSSED THE HOLD LINE, THE FO SAW ANOTHER B737 ON SHORT FINAL AND TOLD THE CAPT TO STOP, WHICH HE DID. ATCT LCL CTLR REALIZED AT THIS TIME THAT THE POTENTIAL CONFLICT WAS ABOUT TO OCCUR, BUT USED WRONG CALL SIGN IN TRYING TO STOP THE TAXIING B737. THE CAPT TOLD THE TWR THEY WERE HOLDING CLR OF THE RWY AS THE B737 PASSED AND LANDED.
Narrative: WE WERE HOLDING AT 'THE PAD' FOR A RWY 24L DEP FROM LAX. THE PAD IS AT THE END OF RWY 24L FACING DOWN THE RWY. WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. AS WE TURNED THE CORNER AND CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE, THE FO STATED THAT THE ACFT ON SHORT FINAL LOOKED LIKE IT WAS LNDG ON OUR RWY RATHER THAN RWY 24R WHICH IS NORMAL. I STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY AND OUR COMPANY LANDED ON RWY 24L. THE TWR HAD INDEED CLRED HIM TO LAND AND US INTO POS ON THE SAME RWY. WHEN THE CTLR REALIZED THE SIT, HE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL XMISSIONS, USING WRONG CALL SIGNS, ETC. HE WAS A LITTLE FLUSTERED. WE JUST STATED THAT WE WERE HOLDING SHORT AND HE THANKED US. COMPANY LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AND WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED INTO POS AGAIN WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. WE ARE USED TO SEEING ACFT ON FINAL, NORMALLY FOR THE OTHER RWY (PARALLEL) AND IT TAKES A MOMENT TO REALIZE THAT THEY ARE LNDG ON YOUR RWY.
