Narrative:
As we taxied out to runway 16, ground control advised us of a delay in getting our IFR release and told us he could release us with no delay if we departed VFR and picked up our IFR in the air. We accepted his offer after agreeing that we could remain at VFR clrncs from the scattered cloud layer at 3000 ft. Under the assumption that by complying with the published SID would keep us clear of class B airspace as well as inbound ord runway 14L traffic, we departed. I began an immediate right turn as outlined in the SID and began climbing to 3000 ft (our previous IFR assigned altitude). We checked on with departure control at approximately 2000 ft, and by the time he replied, we were at 2500 ft -- at the floor of the class B airspace. The controller acknowledged we had entered class B and instructed us to remain clear.

Title: CPR LTT CREW MISUNDERSTOOD THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES AND CLBED INTO ORD CLASS B WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: AS WE TAXIED OUT TO RWY 16, GND CTL ADVISED US OF A DELAY IN GETTING OUR IFR RELEASE AND TOLD US HE COULD RELEASE US WITH NO DELAY IF WE DEPARTED VFR AND PICKED UP OUR IFR IN THE AIR. WE ACCEPTED HIS OFFER AFTER AGREEING THAT WE COULD REMAIN AT VFR CLRNCS FROM THE SCATTERED CLOUD LAYER AT 3000 FT. UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT BY COMPLYING WITH THE PUBLISHED SID WOULD KEEP US CLR OF CLASS B AIRSPACE AS WELL AS INBOUND ORD RWY 14L TFC, WE DEPARTED. I BEGAN AN IMMEDIATE R TURN AS OUTLINED IN THE SID AND BEGAN CLBING TO 3000 FT (OUR PREVIOUS IFR ASSIGNED ALT). WE CHKED ON WITH DEP CTL AT APPROX 2000 FT, AND BY THE TIME HE REPLIED, WE WERE AT 2500 FT -- AT THE FLOOR OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. THE CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED WE HAD ENTERED CLASS B AND INSTRUCTED US TO REMAIN CLR.
