Narrative:

Captain was updating omega. Our flight was planned for FL280. I had put FL260 in our altitude alerter, but was thinking FL280. Altitude alerter was not very loud and I did not hear it. Captain noticed me passing approximately FL263 and told me to descend immediately. I did, but aircraft topped out at FL265. Meanwhile ATC reclred us to FL280. We asked ATC if there was a conflict and ATC said there was no conflict. Fatigue was a contributing factor, due to my poor night's sleep the previous night, before my commute to nyc. Supplemental information from acn 349550: captain (me) failed to call out 1000 ft warning. Was distracted confirming omega latitude and longitude coordinates.
