Narrative:
In sum: flying VFR sna to oxr. ATC asked if the pilot wanted to use the hollywood park VFR corridor. Pilot said yes. ATC cleared him to maintain 4500 ft. He mistook compton airport for hawthorne airport, therefore turning northwest too early. His VOR showed him right of course and he didn't correct enough. He was tuned to smo VOR instead of vny VOR so, if he had corrected enough, he would have flown directly over the lax airport. He turned west toward oxr and advised ATC he was leaving the corridor. At that time ATC told him of his violation.
