Narrative:
Our ord inbound flight was late and I was informed via ACARS that the paperwork for flight would be waiting at the departure gate. The tps was missing from the flight plan so I pulled it up and it reflected the proper tail number, so I did not bother to check the flight plan tail number. The original paperwork that was waiting for me had been pulled up prior to an aircraft change that I did not know about. That flight plan was for another tail number. We departed the gate and during taxi out the first officer realized the flight plan tail number was wrong. A new flight plan with the proper tail number was obtained via ACARS and checked prior to takeoff. I should have taken the time to read every word on the papers prior to signing. Supplemental information from acn 351880: I normally check both the tps and flight plan but we were rushed and the tps was correct. The agent had pulled the paperwork for the captain.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: F100 CREW TAXIES OUT WITH INCORRECT ACFT TAIL NUMBER FOR THE FLT PLAN RELEASE PAPERS.
Narrative: OUR ORD INBOUND FLT WAS LATE AND I WAS INFORMED VIA ACARS THAT THE PAPERWORK FOR FLT WOULD BE WAITING AT THE DEP GATE. THE TPS WAS MISSING FROM THE FLT PLAN SO I PULLED IT UP AND IT REFLECTED THE PROPER TAIL NUMBER, SO I DID NOT BOTHER TO CHK THE FLT PLAN TAIL NUMBER. THE ORIGINAL PAPERWORK THAT WAS WAITING FOR ME HAD BEEN PULLED UP PRIOR TO AN ACFT CHANGE THAT I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT. THAT FLT PLAN WAS FOR ANOTHER TAIL NUMBER. WE DEPARTED THE GATE AND DURING TAXI OUT THE FO REALIZED THE FLT PLAN TAIL NUMBER WAS WRONG. A NEW FLT PLAN WITH THE PROPER TAIL NUMBER WAS OBTAINED VIA ACARS AND CHKED PRIOR TO TKOF. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO READ EVERY WORD ON THE PAPERS PRIOR TO SIGNING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 351880: I NORMALLY CHK BOTH THE TPS AND FLT PLAN BUT WE WERE RUSHED AND THE TPS WAS CORRECT. THE AGENT HAD PULLED THE PAPERWORK FOR THE CAPT.
