Narrative:
I own 1/6 of this aircraft. Another owner had flown plane on oct/wed/96. I found nose gear strut with no air on oct/thu/96. Nose strut had air put in, would not hold. Contact repair service. Asked advice and information on within regulations to fly plane for repair of strut from local airport authority/authorized. Was approved. Flew plane for strut seals replacement. No incident. Landed on main gear. No problem with repair and flew plane back to C97. Another of the owners questioned my flying plane to repair point. Claims takeoff and landing with no front strut air pressure might be considered unsafe or illegal operation under FARS on airworthiness. Even with the best of intentions, I felt at the time it was within the regulations, but now am not sure. Even with no problem to the aircraft my judgement as a pilot may fall under question. I am sending this report for that reason. Also note I called to find aircraft mechanic to come to C97 to do repair. None in our area were available or would do so.
