Narrative:

Retracted gear, nosewheel made severe noise and continual vibration in airframe. Suspected bird strike in radome at first. Airspeed was ok. Acceleration above 180 KTS caused increased vibration. Re-extended slats/flaps, declared emergency, called maintenance control. Wheel well area had been worked in, so they suspected door latch open and suggested recycle gear down and up. We rejected that idea, if it goes down, it stays down (old common air sense rule). Extended gear, locked down, landed uneventfully and cleaned up trouser chili! P.south. CRM works! Both first officer and I were previous CRM instructors and were able to put those skills to work.
