Narrative:

Canceled IFR leaving 17500 ft in order to go direct to destination (lkr) in order to conserve fuel. Landed with 55 mins of fuel instead of 30 mins if we had stayed with center and their assigned arrival. As we descended into lkr, we had the DME tuned to sugar loaf instead of charlotte, clt (as we thought). Consequently we were unsure of our distance from clt. This was not noted until after we landed at lkr. Suggest an ATC update on airspaces in the vicinity with any restrs when canceling an IFR clearance since the burden of remaining clear of such airspace or getting permission transfers primarily from ATC to the pilot in this situation.

Title: A LR24 CARGO ACR PLT MAY HAVE ENTERED THE CLT CLASS 'B' AIRSPACE AFTER HE CANCELED HIS IFR CLRNC AT ALT. ERROR ADMITTED.

Narrative: CANCELED IFR LEAVING 17500 FT IN ORDER TO GO DIRECT TO DEST (LKR) IN ORDER TO CONSERVE FUEL. LANDED WITH 55 MINS OF FUEL INSTEAD OF 30 MINS IF WE HAD STAYED WITH CTR AND THEIR ASSIGNED ARR. AS WE DSNDED INTO LKR, WE HAD THE DME TUNED TO SUGAR LOAF INSTEAD OF CHARLOTTE, CLT (AS WE THOUGHT). CONSEQUENTLY WE WERE UNSURE OF OUR DISTANCE FROM CLT. THIS WAS NOT NOTED UNTIL AFTER WE LANDED AT LKR. SUGGEST AN ATC UPDATE ON AIRSPACES IN THE VICINITY WITH ANY RESTRS WHEN CANCELING AN IFR CLRNC SINCE THE BURDEN OF REMAINING CLR OF SUCH AIRSPACE OR GETTING PERMISSION TRANSFERS PRIMARILY FROM ATC TO THE PLT IN THIS SIT.
