Narrative:
Location: 5 mi northwest of stl. Runway 12R ILS approach at stl. While on final, PIREPS of low level windshear were received of plus 15-25 KTS. Missed which was briefed prior to the approach. At approximately 1000 ft MSL, fully configured, a plus 35- 45 KT windshear was experienced by our aircraft, accompanied by a windshear alert. The captain initiated a go around missed approach and began an aggressive climb in anticipation of a possible decreasing performance windshear. During the climb, after notifying approach, we were given a 3000 ft MSL level off altitude assignment. Due to the maneuvers while attempting to clean up the aircraft, we leveled off at approximately 3600 ft MSL and stabilized the aircraft. Approach told us at least twice to maintain 3000 ft MSL which we complied with after aircraft stabilization.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727-200 ON APCH EXPERIENCES WINDSHEAR AND EXECUTES GAR. AGGRESSIVE CLB WITH FULL PWR AND A 3000 FT ALT ASSIGNMENT BY ATC. ACFT CLB RATE MAKES THE LEVEL OFF TOO LATE AND ACFT CLBS TO 3600 FT. ACFT RETURNED TO 3000 FT. VARIANCE IN ALTIMETER SETTINGS CAUSED SOME CONFUSION IN COCKPIT.
Narrative: LOCATION: 5 MI NW OF STL. RWY 12R ILS APCH AT STL. WHILE ON FINAL, PIREPS OF LOW LEVEL WINDSHEAR WERE RECEIVED OF PLUS 15-25 KTS. MISSED WHICH WAS BRIEFED PRIOR TO THE APCH. AT APPROX 1000 FT MSL, FULLY CONFIGURED, A PLUS 35- 45 KT WINDSHEAR WAS EXPERIENCED BY OUR ACFT, ACCOMPANIED BY A WINDSHEAR ALERT. THE CAPT INITIATED A GAR MISSED APCH AND BEGAN AN AGGRESSIVE CLB IN ANTICIPATION OF A POSSIBLE DECREASING PERFORMANCE WINDSHEAR. DURING THE CLB, AFTER NOTIFYING APCH, WE WERE GIVEN A 3000 FT MSL LEVEL OFF ALT ASSIGNMENT. DUE TO THE MANEUVERS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CLEAN UP THE ACFT, WE LEVELED OFF AT APPROX 3600 FT MSL AND STABILIZED THE ACFT. APCH TOLD US AT LEAST TWICE TO MAINTAIN 3000 FT MSL WHICH WE COMPLIED WITH AFTER ACFT STABILIZATION.
