Narrative:
Upon takeoff from mco, no heading was given on takeoff so I flew the cleared transition which was colliers (MCOY4.irq) via orl R338 and vqq R170 to vqq VOR. Departure control asked what our heading was and we told him we were tracking the orl 338 degree radial. He asked if we were given a heading or if we were cleared that way. We said we were cleared that way. At that point the controller said 'I'm pretty sure tower gave you a heading.' we asked if he wanted us on a heading at that point. He said to continue flying the departure. A couple of flts in front of us, an airliner and a falcon jet respectively) were given headings of 360 degrees and 005 degrees. We were not given a heading and flew the filed departure.
