Narrative:
While using VOR/DME and GPS to locate the various waypoints marking the corridors, I could not be positively sure I was flying clear of the restr areas by ground reference. After flying to the waypoints and flying a heading up the corridor, I thought I could recognize terrain patterns to verify exact position as depicted on the chart. It was not that easy to recognize the terrain patterns.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA PLT HAS DIFFICULTY REMAINING CLR OF SUA OVER THE GRAND CANYON USING VOR DME GPS AND VISUAL NAV. POSSIBLE AIRSPACE PENETRATION. GIVEN THE TERRAIN IN THIS AREA IT IS MOST DIFFICULT TO IDENT SPECIFIC CHKPOINTS TO ASSURE REMAINING CLR.
