Narrative:
Aircraft was on cargo ramp. Our taxi clearance was taxi on runway 23L to west cross point to runway 6. Runway 6 was the active runway, runway 23L/5R used for takeoff only (if requested by pilots) and runway 23R/5L was closed due to construction. We taxied onto runway 23R thinking we were on runway 23L. Another aircraft had been told to follow us to runway 6. We realized the taxi mistake when ground told air carrier Y not to follow us. We immediately taxied onto runway 23L and continued to runway 6. Ground control did not notify us of the taxi mistake. The mistake was caused by misidenting the starting point of the taxi route. We taxied onto N9 thinking it was N7. Other factors: this flight was supposed to operate hong kong to subic bay (vhhh-rplb). Due to WX at subic bay we diverted to taipei. We were on the ground at taipei for approximately 3 hours. We then continued to subic bay.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: UNAUTH RWY USE ENTRY OP WHEN AIR FREIGHTER CREW SUFFERS FROM SPATIAL DISORIENTATION REGARDING THEIR STARTING POINT IN A NIGHT TAXI OP.
Narrative: ACFT WAS ON CARGO RAMP. OUR TAXI CLRNC WAS TAXI ON RWY 23L TO W CROSS POINT TO RWY 6. RWY 6 WAS THE ACTIVE RWY, RWY 23L/5R USED FOR TKOF ONLY (IF REQUESTED BY PLTS) AND RWY 23R/5L WAS CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. WE TAXIED ONTO RWY 23R THINKING WE WERE ON RWY 23L. ANOTHER ACFT HAD BEEN TOLD TO FOLLOW US TO RWY 6. WE REALIZED THE TAXI MISTAKE WHEN GND TOLD ACR Y NOT TO FOLLOW US. WE IMMEDIATELY TAXIED ONTO RWY 23L AND CONTINUED TO RWY 6. GND CTL DID NOT NOTIFY US OF THE TAXI MISTAKE. THE MISTAKE WAS CAUSED BY MISIDENTING THE STARTING POINT OF THE TAXI RTE. WE TAXIED ONTO N9 THINKING IT WAS N7. OTHER FACTORS: THIS FLT WAS SUPPOSED TO OPERATE HONG KONG TO SUBIC BAY (VHHH-RPLB). DUE TO WX AT SUBIC BAY WE DIVERTED TO TAIPEI. WE WERE ON THE GND AT TAIPEI FOR APPROX 3 HRS. WE THEN CONTINUED TO SUBIC BAY.
